OpenBenches & Gaugemaster DCC Controllers
Firstly, let's begin with “What a day”. Like everyone else, Cloudflare outages for today made life much more difficult than it needed to be. I'm not going to get into my feelings on sticking everything on the internet behind Cloudflare. There are enough posts out there covering that.
In this morning's news feeds, I came across a post from Terrence Eden about a project that I had no idea existed. OpenBenches. There was something about this that made me smile, and I think it's fantastic that the data is making its way into OSM. That is some very cool work.
My Dad is currently working on a pretty cool small model railway. I say small, it's rapidly growing. What was once a small oval is now taking up an entire length of the garage. He has now managed to obtain a DCC Controller for practically nothing (this one). And he's asked me if it's possible to control it all from his Android tablet. Because why not.
I've spent the last few days starting to learn about these things because I have NO idea. And I have stumbled across http://www.z21.co.uk. I've got an old TP-Link router that can be donated to this, too. The only issue is, I can see this taking up a lot of my time!
