New Phone Day - iPhone 16E

Well, technically, Monday was new phone day, but I didn't set it up until late afternoon. So Tuesday was the first full day with it.

Coming from an iPhone 8, the size difference isn't that much, visually. Especially when I put the 8 in the 16E box. But in the hand, it feels huge (😏).

The transfer of data and apps over to the new device was absolutely seamless, as I've come to expect from iPhones. It really is quite a pleasure how boring and uneventful it is. I just left it sat there next to me, doing what it needed to do with the occasional tap.

For the case, I went with the Spigen Nano Pop MagFit, and a Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector. The application of that screen protector was so smooth.

Out of all the apps, including things like Signal and Threema, the one and only thing that didn't transfer properly was Microsoft Authenticator (for work). What an absolute bag of crap that thing is. Even transferring heylogin was simple and fast. But no, Microsoft Authenticator. You just had to be different, didn't you. Sure, you put an option in there for creating a backup that can be synced and restored over iCloud. But I have to add my personal Microsoft account details to be able to do it. Although, this is changing soon.

Perhaps I'll just hold off wiping the old device until this change is made in September, then create a backup and restore it.

Anyway. The phone is fantastic. Still has 44% battery after starting on ~72% out of the box on Monday. It's already been on a run and quite a few walks with podcasts and music playing. Will probably get tomorrow's run out of it as well before actually putting it on to charge for the first time. Fits perfectly into the Salomon running belt, too. Which seems to be holding up nicely so far!

Every so often, I miss Android and have this strange urge to have a look at what's happening. Then hear yet another horror story about how Google did something terrible to their Pixel line up. Or that they're starting to develop it behind closed doors, not releasing information to make it harder on some developers. Nah, I'll just stick with something that works, thanks.

This phone should last me a good long while now!
