I used to enjoy monitoring and alerting thoroughly during my time on a systems team. Making use of Nagios, Icinga, Graylog, and implementing UNINETTNAV. In fact, I think NAV was, by far, one of my favourite and most enjoyable projects that is still in use over 8 years later.

I haven't read it all yet, but it was actually this post https://henrikgerdes.me/blog/2025-11-grafana-mess/ that made me think about those projects, and how much I enjoyed them. This is definitely a topic I need to return to.
