From Sublime to Kate & Other Things
Today, I decided it was finally time to change my primary text editor from Sublime to Kate. No particular reason, apart from wanting to shift back to using more open-source tools in my day-to-day life where possible.
Over the last 6–7 years, macOS has been my primary platform due to my job roles. During that time, I obviously began to use tools that weren't as open. I don't think this was a conscious decision, just something that happened gradually. Now I want to work on changing that back.
There are things, however, that I intend to keep the way they are. I will not stop using an iPhone after moving away from Android a few years ago. The difference is, just, vast. Especially with a MacBook as the primary device. Even if/when I do move back to Linux as a daily driver, I think the iPhone is staying. Besides, I've only just upgraded a trusty second hand iPhone 8 up to a new 16e. This thing is likely to be around for a while!
Something else, I don't think I could function without, is Agenda. There is just something about the way it works, and how it all comes together, that clicks with my brain.
Other things that happened today.
Monte Cook Games finally released some digital rewards for their recent Cypher 2.0 Backerkit Project. And absolute treasure trove of items to read through tomorrow evening when I've got some time to myself.
Next up is I had a truly enjoyable chat with a colleague in work today during one of the weekly “Coffee Calls”. We spoke about all kinds of things from life, gaming, and books. Which led to https://www.diygenius.com/how-to-get-a-liberal-arts-education-without-going-to-university/. Certainly need to put some of those books on the reading list!
I think more places should do “Coffee Calls”. Even as someone who struggles to talk to people, I do enjoy them (mostly). It encourages a laid-back discussion with people you may not normally interact with by selecting random partners each week. Just 30 minutes to get to know each other. No pressures, no work. It's your time.
